In the far northeastern part of Malaysia, there is a small group of Chinese immigrant called the rural Peranakan Chinese, who has been residing in Kelantan and Terengganu for the the past 300 years.
Also known as “Cina Kampung”(Kampung Chinese), “Cina Kelantan”(Kelantan Chinese), and “Cina Kita”(Our Chinese). Peranakan Chinese villages are mostly found along the riverbank of Sungai Kelantan, where they opened the villages right after coming on land. Their culture and architecture has gone through years of amalgamation, acculturation and adaptation to the local geographical setting, which has made them rich in cultural and heritage value.
Up to this day, the community still lives in their villages harmoniously with the surrounding nature.
At present day, as modernization and change in way of life looms over the fate of the Peranakan Chinese, there is need to ensure the survival of this unique group.

Thesis Statement - Issue - Objectives - Program: All are to be on a consistent note with critical thinking process, each item in sync with each other.

Each statement are to be presented by an issue. And each objectives must relate back to the issue, showing the possible solution. And finally the program will need to offer enough and logically carry out the objectives, quenching the issues in line.

STATEMENT

OBJECTIVES

1. Reunite the villagers by providing housing opportunities so that extended families can live together with their parents or the elderly.

2. To generate economy for the village

3. To strengthen the socio-cultural of the village by providing community and amenities

Scribbling some note on the main intention of my thesis.

This thesis, with its results of the research, may raise new architectural discourses on the development of a Malaysian multi-racial architecture identity. It is undeniable that the harmonious of a multi-racial society has to start with the basic understanding of each race’s cultural heritage and ritual, which can be started by firstly understanding the architecture of their domestic house.

The Peranakan Chinese house which is a hybrid of Malay-Chinese elements, can be a medium to show us that the wisdom of this Peranakan community, who are willing to adjust, accept, share and exchange their cultural values and built heritage with the local Malay natives. This is deemed as a valuable architecture catalyst in determining a harmonious multi-racial architecture identity.

This thesis also aims to explore the hybrid contents of the stilt house, through the methods of investigation and uncovering its typological form from various viewpoints such as cross social-cultural assimilation, adaptation to the geographical setting, technological exchanging and adjustments that has given shape to this house typology.

In a flash, my Singapore stint has ended.

So does my holidays.

Here I am, chucked back into prison, to begin my final year as an architecture student.

First crit session's is in 3 days time and my hands are still empty! (literally. technically there are a few books lying around.)

I'll try to write often here about my thesis title, just as a jumpstart to what I'll be really doing. Blogs are cool ya know. I can write anything here without hesitation. If I were to write something now which is due submission to the professors, heck I will surely get stuck in deep mud.

This shall be a platform for test-write. I hope.

most people

the movie 'Despicable Me 2' just came out some time ago, and there was this McDonalds who were selling these little yellow minion toys which were a hit in the movie.

And all of a sudden, people were SO CRAZY to get their hands on them.

Read in some news that hordes of people lined up at McDs by 12am...just to buy the toy. Read further news that one of the fast food joints' roller-shutter were even damaged because of queuing (due to pushing and shoving I presume).

Like, seriously?

For a small yellow toy with overalls and goggles?

And Bro Tat who is in Perth just went to some random Maccas (McD in Aus-TRAE-lian slang) and picked up a few minions like it was a pack of gum from 7E.

But queuing up and acting so kiasu for it?
Its not like you've known these things for a long time or it was from your childhood and stuff! They just want it coz its cool. and cute, claims 'some other people'.

I think that...the thing is...

Most people don't really know what they want.

So they just follow the trend.

Trends are cool, and is popular, and everybody knows about it.
So, why not?

Something is trending.
You pick it up, I pick it up, we pick it up, and we'll all be talking about it and discussing it and shit like that.

The same happened with Gangnam Style and all those parodies.

The same happened too with Harlem Shake and all those parodies.

And the same happened too with Gentleman and all those shit.

Man, these people have no soul.

(and man, who am I to judge these people.)

haven't update for quite some time now...but who really cares anyways these days? better to just tweet or insta with some 'hashtags'...

just for a little something something, I found myself in Singapore at this moment for the university internship programme...completely different from last summer in Beijing of course.

Honestly not really having fun (everything is so expensive) and also, that sense and urge of exploration has somewhat diminished, compared to the time when I was in Beijing...

Blah. That aside, just hoping I can earn a little pocket money...if i am able to.

i have to admit that these two pages of my portfolio are the one which I "enthuse" the most about.

dough vs recipe

a rhetorical question to start with this post,

"If I were to give you a very very big piece of dough now which will probably last you a few months or a year, will you accept it or will you ask from me the recipe to make this dough? And how much are you willing to pay the price for this recipe?"

money money money.

everything seems to be about the dough these days.

sigh...even internship!

Pops said don't go for the money. Go for the reputation, the exposure, and the experience. Money is temporary. It can finish. But exposure and experience will stick in the mind. Reputation will carry itself in the resume.

Come to think of it, it kinda makes sense.

But a young boy like me...the temptations of money is always there no matter how we look at it...

I hope I made the right decision this time. Looking forward very much to the future.

City Green Library

My 2nd year project, City Green Library. Pn Malsiah liked this a lot I remember. The killer word I used in the presentation was "Urban Heat Island". That was the finisher.
Then again, come to look at it now. This design is really NOOB looking. More improvements to come for sure in the future. Architecture is a life-long process anyway!

If you were saying that these people only used me as a driver, then may I say too that your people used me as a taxi to collect and transport all those stuff from China?

And what about all those previous times when people from your club wanted to use me as a driver, a supplier of keyboard, a photographer, and a layman?

Perhaps you do not understand what helping means.

Perhaps I shall just throw away this box and leave it to rot.

some pieces of my compiled works

So i just done something for my portfolio compilation. Thought I'd post it, coz who knows? Maybe Bjarke Ingels might be reading this now. Haha.

The cover, which was totally white.

My experiences at RSP Beijing.

My mentor at Beijing told me before that I have quite a talent in writing, so he suggested me to compile my portfolio in a magazine style whereby you will actually try to read what is written. I don't know if people will read it, but I gave it a try anyway. (well, nobody has seen this before anyway lol)

getting rid of bad habits gives you a murderous nightmare

in the middle of the 2nd week of the semester now, and I am wondering why am I doing unproductive things...

recently have been dreaming about murder and also some violent things. Was so curious so I googled what the hell did those nightmares mean.
Turns out it means I am trying to get rid of old habits and my brain works that way.
Old habits huh?
Is eating alot a habit?
Is procrastination a habit?
Is being lazy another habit?

These could all be true. As somehow I need to eliminate these habits.

quick trip for a movie

this morning all out of a sudden, Fur called me out for a movie.

12:15pm
1 Utama
Journey to the West

turns out the movie was.......

kinda sucky.

Apart from the concepts of how the demons became the monk's anak murid (they were badasses eating people which i thought was cool), the whole movie is kinda awkward, with too much time wasted on some of the scenes, and the feeling that the plot line was stuffed with some nonsensical things.

Here's some of the scenes inside the movie...

yeah, that's the f*cking pig Zhu Ba Jie. But Chow had a new concept for this character, in which the pig demon is not a pig but a boar, doesn't talk, is really ganas and ugly, and eats alot of people.

The fish/sand demon from the opening scenes. It is a supposed redefined version of Sha Wujing (沙僧). He is very hungry too in this movie.

On the left is the hot Chrissie Chau and that is Shu Qi on the right.

Here's some of Chrissie Chau's pictures if you're a little...interested (unrelated to movie). Hehe.

Overall, a Stephen Chow movie without Stephen Chow inside, is really really strange.
He should definitely be inside his own movie next time.

Cooking to Housecleaning

so I was browsing Facebook just a few mins ago, and I noticed a friend of mine posting pictures of some food and talking about how proud he is that its the first time his girlfriend cooked for him.

Wowzers...you must be thinking i so jealous now ya? But NO!!! u wrong liao!

(if the princess is reading this now, i am sure she will be shouting: "now you complain me!!!" in her head)

In fact, my girl DID cooked for me before.

a few days before we left uni, she and her friends got together to cook some pasta meal. (ok i know its not done by her alone, but i'll still claim its by her). I whacked about 2 plates of that carbonara. man i love the cheesy creamy taste.
some might say: damn, thats not cooking. that's only preparing!

Well, she did at least came up with something for me to eat! So i don't care if its cooked or prepared or boiled or punched. The food comes from her, I take it and eat it like a taukeh.

I remember last semester she also fried some french toasts for me. Fried it liao then took it to the lecture hall, and want me to collect it there!! i felt so happy, although i was a little late to the lecture hall haha.
yeng leh, takeaway also can. hahaha.

Princess always mentions that she won't cook for me one. And she won't be housewife one.
Actually I don't really care much, since modern generation tend to go outside for a nice dinner and also hire those Indon maids to clean up their houses.
You see, firstly, if you cook at home, you need to buy alot of ingredients. Secondly, maybe will no mood to enjoy a nice dinner with the dearest because you got very tired and oily and smelly preparing those dishes. Thirdly, need wash plates after eating!

if eating outside, all these mahuan things no need think. maybe will use some petrol money or waste some time nia in the traffic jam. haha.
(actually there is a logic counter-argument to the above statements about bad things about cooking ownself, but i do not wish to state it, as the princess sure say i am like Spear & Shield again.)

What about housecleaning?
Sigh, people getting lazy and lazier these days. So just hire a Indon maid to do all the dirty work for you. House big big get indon maids. House small small also get indon maids!
So hopefully next time my own house i want a small small one enough. No need clean too much haha.
If the house big abit, hmm, then princess will need do the housecleaning la!

hehe.

Abit of football with the lads

so its been quite some time since we kicked a ball.
Oh sorry. Not we. Just me.

Been like one semester long since I rumbled with thy coursemates. heck I even missed the Archileague tournament matches because of a facial appointment with the princess.

So here we are at Sunway Extreme Park, for a game of indoor football. I'd say it is semi-indoor coz there's no walls or windows. Just a roof covering the pitches.

12 of us in total. The usual 9 of us, plus Ah Than (Hau's cousin), and 2 other friends of KCs. we'll just call them Patriot and Tattoo Loong here.

I don't know why, maybe because I haven't played football in such a long time, I was pumped up for the game.
So pumped that I scored 2 goals in the opening 5 mins!
You see here, I don't usually score since I naturally play as a defender but the pump-ness there made me stayed in the forward line in those first few minutes.

Here's how the goal came:
When the game started we were all just testing water. Cincai kick, long ball, short ball, as long as feel tiok suang in the legs. But then someone passed the ball forward blindly and out came Terry to control the ball...and failed! It fell to me, and I just passed it in. Lol everybody laughed. That's our way. We always laugh laugh smile smile when concede or score goal. Nobody getting fcking serious punya.

And the 2nd goal came...:
The ball was out for a goal kick in the opposition side. Goalie passed to Terry (again), and this time I was right behind him. Used my full strength (Terry is a very big guy) to rob the ball from him, ran abit, then shoot it down the near post!
Man, that goal certainly looked like the one RvP scored against Reading.

And without realising it, I was celebrating the goal like Eric Cantona. Open up my arms and stare into space.
LOL...abit siasui after that. But who cares, everybody laughed. (as usual)

Action followed soon after, and a flurry of goals arrived, continued with much laughter after each goal. I think each of us scored. I only clearly remember Terry redeeming himself with a goal from a goal-kick and also a trademark header later on! Damn, nobody can stop him when he's flying in the air like that.

Somewhere towards the end of the game, I got an assist to force an own goal! First time happened in my life, haha.
Ball came to me on the right side, I cut in to the left and then executed a flick with my left leg thru the back of my right. I know most can't imagine a commentary on a flick. So look here :

Yes...that's how you do it. Like Ronaldo. (sibeh zhuokeng..)
The ball flew to the legs of Tattoo Loong, and he kicked it into his own goal!
I do not know why, maybe the dragon tattoo on his leg see my Ronaldo flick so yeng, so decided to help me and score the goal. hahaha. f*ck imagination.

Anyway these kickabouts are really fun. Yes, and the next morning when I woke up, I feel like an old man with aches EVERYWHERE! it felt like Naked Snake in MGS3:Snake Eater when he fell down from the bridge.

Exactly like that. Just that I have more injuries on the hamstring, shins, and ankles.
...Xue.

lookin forward to the next game. Maybe few months after this, since my location is somewhere in southern peninsular.
Horses.

Mindset and Thinkings

Great minds discuss ideas.

Average minds discuss events.

Small minds discuss people.

Right, Mr Mies?

i don't know why, but seems like my knowledge in blog elements is really really low.

Or is it just me who lacked the information? Can't even put a proper header picture on the top of the blog, So screw it, I'll just put nothing at all.

Less is more. Right, Mr Mies?

And what about those "design layouts"? damn. Its just all template and codes. At first I thought it was gonna be something interactive and fun, you know, something 'design'. Where I can arrange my own boxes and colours and fonts and pictures without much hassle.

Turns out I didn't understand all those or maybe blogspot just made it difficult for blog klutz like me.

I'm pretty free and a little aimless these few days. Don't know why, maybe it was the after effects of all the football that weekend. Yes, I just went for a 2-hour game of indoor football with ma fellow Hung Heng bros, and kicking a ball for the first time in 5 months.

Maybe I'll cerita more on that later. I don't like blog posts to be long long one. Write essay meh. haha.

day out with the gang (partially)

met up with two of my best friends from our gang last Sunday.
been quite a long time since I last saw them. Probably one year?

Several places we went, first to "Famous-Till-You-Have-to-Wait-ONE HOUR" zhu yok fun (pork noodles) around Sunway area. Met up at my place and then Lim Wei drove 3 of us there. It was really fucking 1 hour plus of waiting time, just for a big bowl of Pork Noodles. But we spent that time chatting up plus we seemed kinda free. (or care-free, as I put it)

The pork noodles was...excellent!! I can go on eating this till dinner and everyday but when it is a ONE-HOUR waiting time, hmm, maybe once in a while. And that chef should somehow expand his kitchen (which has only ONE stove). Giap mentions about the quality control but I really think this Pork Noodle Chef should upgrade his kitchen.

After pork noddling we went to 1Utama as agreed, with Lim Wei wanting to get some "Chinese New Year Clothes" and me+Giap wanting to cluelessly walk around the mall. For the first hour, we 'cluelessly' drove around the parking lot of 1U (its Sunday, and its 2pm). Spending a huge amount of time finding parking in 1U or MidValley has somewhat becoming a culture here in the big city..and now I see why Princess was turning green and greener every second when we spent about half an hour finding parking in MidValley last week.

Come 6pm, we headed The Curve to meet up with Giap's girlfriend, and together we had Ikea Meatballs and a walkabout the furniture exhibition. Rounded off the day at SS2 Murni where Kian Wei joined us and as usual, we talked crap till 1am. Great day with the bros.

(Below: Discussions over who's house would be used for football later in life. haha)
